VOTING WEBINAR FOR DELEGATES FOR 2023 DELEGATE ASSEMBLY

It is now time to select your district's voting delegate (and alternates) for the 2023 Delegate Assembly. Every district is allowed to have ONE voting delegate to participate in the assembly (either in-person or virtually). We are implementing a new remote voting system this year, so we must insist on strict deadlines and will need your assistance in submitting this form by September 12, 2023 by 5 p.m. Voting delegates should be voted on/selected by your district's Board of Education.

If for any reason delegates are selected or reported after this deadline, districts will have to submit a proposal to the CASB Board of Directors for appeal to be reviewed on September 22. We appreciate your assistance to complete the delegate form before the September 12 deadline. Please let us know if you have questions or special circumstances.

VIRTUAL VOTING FOR DELEGATE ASSEMBLY

For the first time, virtual voting will be offered to members for the 2023 Delegate Assembly in a trial run. This option will be open to voting delegates who wish to attend the assembly on October 7 virtually. Pricing for this option will be $25 per person to help with the cost of the voting software. When filling out the form you must use the information for the district's official voting delegate. Each district is allowed to have one voting delegate.

Following your completion of the registration form you will receive a Zoom link for the Delegate Assembly. More information regarding the virtual voting software will be sent out in a few weeks. CASB will be hosting a webinar to go over the voting software and answer any questions. Virtual attendees are required to attend this webinar.

At the Delegate Assembly, Legislative Resolutions will be debated and voted upon. The work of the CASB Bylaws Review Task Force will be presented at the Fall Conference portion on October 6. They will NOT be discussed or debated at the Delegate Assembly but WILL be discussed and debated at the December Convention/Business Meeting.

Things to Note Regarding Virtual Voting:

• Since this is a new process, members voting virtually will NOT be able to participate in floor conversations
  • Members will be able to hear discussions being made in person via the Zoom but will ONLY be allowed to vote virtually
  • Virtual attendees will NOT be able to submit floor resolutions
• Only ONE voting delegate from each district will be allowed to attend the Zoom
  • All other non-voting members will not be allowed to participate virtually
• You MUST pre-register and you MUST complete the voting delegate form
• All virtual attendees will be responsible for their own internet connection and technology
  • Votes will not be redone or paused due to a bad personal internet connection
• Virtual attendees MUST have their cameras on at all times during the Delegate Assembly
• If you are registered to attend in person you CANNOT cancel and change to virtual attendance
• An alternate cannot be recognized virtually or in person unless that alternate was submitted by the September 12 deadline along with the 'elected' delegate

How do we get past unfamiliarity, fear, and nostalgia to recognize the power and potential of digital technologies while also being cognizant of their limitations and drawbacks? Join Scott - who is the director of the only university center in America dedicated to school technology leadership - for a robust discussion, some larger perspective, and numerous resources on this topic!

• Set for Success: Empowering new school board members through effective onboarding
  

  As school boards transition, it’s important to make sure new members are effectively onboarded to ensure they can be productive and efficient in their new roles. This interactive session will provide practical strategies and best practices for successfully onboarding new school board members. Attendees will learn how to create an effective orientation process, establish clear expectations, establish communication strategies, and identify opportunities for ongoing development. In addition, we will provide tools and resources for evaluating the effectiveness of the orientation process and making relevant improvements. • Unpacking CASB Legislative Resolutions for Action and Impact!
  Resolutions approved by the CASB Delegate Assembly help to support and guide the advocacy work of CASB. These resolutions go far beyond statements of support. Join your fellow CASB members as we discuss how the resolutions process is used to influence legislation at all levels of government.
  

3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Closing General Session with David Flaherty, Magellan Strategies

Opinions of Public Education, Proposition HH, & School District Ballot Measure Best Practices

CASB’s favorite opinion pollster David Flaherty will share the results of a September statewide survey covering a range of public education issues. His research will include data demonstrating how Proposition HH is shaping opinions of state education funding and future school district ballot measures. To keep things local for school board members, David will present the survey results by the twelve CASB Regions. Moreover, he will discuss school ballot measure best practices incorporating survey research data. In addition, this session will be interactive and include real-time audience poll questions throughout the presentation. We look forward to an informative and engaging session you will not want to miss!

• A cancellation fee of $50 will be applied to the refund.

Refunds cannot be made after 4:00 pm, Friday, September 22, 2023. Guarantees are made to the hotel and vendors in advance; therefore, we are unable to grant refund requests after this date.

In the event of a medical emergency, please contact CASB. If granted a refund, a late registration cancellation fee of $75 will apply. Medical emergency refund requests will not be considered after Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

		Scott McLeod, J.D., Ph.D.   A Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Colorado Denver, Scott McLeod, J.D., Ph.D., is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on P-12 school leadership, deeper learning, technology, and innovation. He is on a mission to make students’ day-to-day learning less boring and more meaningful and relevant. He is the Founding Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the only university center in the U.S. dedicated to the technology needs of school administrators, and is the co-creator of the wildly popular video series, Did You Know? (Shift Happens). He also is the co-creator of the 4 Shifts Protocol for lesson/unit redesign and the founder of both the annual Iowa 1:1 Institute and EdCampIowa. Scott has worked with hundreds of schools, districts, universities, and other organizations and has received numerous awards for his technology leadership work, including the 2016 Award for Outstanding Leadership from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Scott blogs about leadership and innovation at Dangerously Irrelevant and is a frequent keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at regional, state, national, and international conferences. Scott also hosts two podcasts, LeaderTalk and Redesigning for Deeper Learning. Scott currently serves as a Getting Smart New Pathways Fellow, ISTE Community Leader, InnEdCO Ambassador, and on NAESP’s Professional Learning Advisory Council. He has written or edited 4 books and 170 articles and other publications, and is one of the most visible education professors in the United States. In Spring 2023 he is road tripping while on sabbatical to explore what deeper learning looks like in elementary and middle schools.
		David Flaherty   David Flaherty is the CEO and founder of Magellan Strategies, a public opinion research firm serving school districts, local governments, special districts, and public policy organizations since 2007. He has spent three decades designing and managing hundreds of public opinion surveys and focus group research projects. His particular area of opinion research expertise is managing complicated voter opinion ballot measure survey projects. David learned the art and science of public opinion research working in Washington, DC, for fourteen years, from 1992 to 2006. He mastered questionnaire design, focus group-qualitative research, and message development strategies working for the Republican National Committee, the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on the Census, and Americans for Prosperity. David is very proud to have helped hundreds of Colorado governments, school districts, and special districts achieve voter approval for various ballot measures funding a wide array of school district needs, operations, and capital projects. David is a native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and a 1991 graduate of the University of Delaware. He lives in Broomfield, Colorado, with his wife, Jennifer, and their two sons, Jack and Bobby.
