Summer P-EBT Approval

CDE and the Colorado Department of Human Services received federal approval to issue summer 2022 P-EBT benefits. There is no P-EBT application. Students may be eligible for P-EBT over the summer months if:

  • The student is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, and
  • The student was enrolled in an NSLP school as of May 2022, and
  • The student’s district reports student information to the P-EBT program.

Summer P-EBT benefits will amount to one lump sum for each eligible student in the amount of $391. Benefits will be issued to existing P-EBT cards or new P-EBT cards, if needed, in December 2022.

Schools and districts can share CDE’s outreach materials to encourage families to provide household information through their school nutrition services department.

More information for families about Summer 2022 P-EBT will be posted to CDHS’s P-EBT website over the next few weeks. Families can contact the P-EBT Support Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Paid Lunch Equity Update

Districts are not required to submit the Paid Lunch Equity tool to the CDE School Nutrition Unit or increase paid student prices for School Year 2022-23. This allows schools to price their paid lunches at a level that best addresses local needs. This flexibility does not apply to adult lunch prices. Districts are still encouraged to review their budget and assess paid lunch prices using the PLE tool to ensure costs are covered and the paid lunch prices this school year don’t adversely affect the nonprofit food service account in future years. Updated resources can be found on the PLE webpage.

Time is running out for teachers to complete evidence-based reading training

The deadline is approaching for Colorado’s educators who teach literacy to K-3 students to submit proof via the Colorado Online Licensing system that they completed their evidence-based training in teaching reading.

Teachers must complete the training by Monday, Aug. 1, and should submit their documentation by Monday, Aug. 15.

Please note that the READ Act training requirement is not mandatory to maintain a teacher’s license status in any way. The benefit of adding the READ Act training designation to an educator’s license is that the proof of completion will stay on the educator’s Colorado credentials for future years as they may change grade levels, schools or districts.

View the K-3 teacher training webpage for more information.

Pandemic-EBT data collection

CDE and the Colorado Department of Human Services obtained U.S. Department of Agriculture approval to issue Pandemic-EBT benefits for School Year 2021-22.

P-EBT benefit eligibility will be assessed for students when a school temporarily changed their learning modality due to COVID-19 anytime from Jan. 1, 2022, through May 31, 2022. A temporary change in learning modality includes providing full-time remote learning for all students or switching to a hybrid learning schedule.

CDE is requesting data for any school-wide changes in learning modality from Jan. 1, 2022, through May 31, 2022, via this survey. If more than five schools were impacted, contact [email protected] for reporting assistance. Otherwise, submit one form for each school impacted. Survey responses are due by Friday, June 24.

For questions or support, email [email protected].

Visit the School Meal Eligibility webpage for additional information.
