CASB believes that quality public education is the foundation for our nation’s economic prosperity, community’s quality of life, and every child’s opportunity to live their best life. The following are current events and opportunities for our members:
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
- Foundational Bias Workshop with Bill de la Cruz is open for registration and includes a 3-part series on April 19, 29, & May 3, 2021 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at a cost of $100 per participant. (limited to 20 attendees)
- The next Board President Cafes are scheduled for April 22 and May 13. Board presidents are welcome to sign up for the upcoming cafes:
- April 22 topic: Equitable Outcomes: What does opportunity, access, and inclusion look like in your district? How are you experiencing success or challenges in this endeavor?
- May 13 topic: How do the responsibilities and role of the board president differ amongst districts?
- Please take a moment to share with us your thoughts on our Regional Meetings, Fall Conference and Delegate Assembly, and the 81st Annual CASB Convention — the event survey is open nowThe April 6 Professional Development Update includes many additional resources and opportunities for members.
ADVOCACY
- The April 9 School Board Advocate covers the Long Bill (the state’s main budget bill), previews the School Finance Act, and more.
- For those who prefer to listen to the news, we have the School Board Advocate Recording now available.
- There are more than 80 education-related bills that would influence public education introduced so far this session. You can find all the details on CASB’s interactive bill graphic and bill tracker.

CASB’s Key Legislative Priorities are on the website and available for sharing with members and asking them to connect with their Key Legislators.
POLICY AND LEGAL
- Special Policy Updates are released on a quarterly basis. The last release went out on March 31 and addressed

A repeal of Policy FA, Facilities Development Goals/Priority Objectives as it no longer effectively serves its purpose as a standalone statement of purpose

An update to Policy KB, Parent and Family Engagement. The board should work with the DAC to review the recommendations and revise the policy as appropriate to reflect the local district’s needs and circumstances.

- The 2021 Election resources are now available to CASB members on our website.
- The job posting for the CASB Chief Legal Counsel and General Counsel position is available on the CASB website.
NSBA UPDATES
- NSBA School Law Online Seminar takes place on April 13-15, 2021.
- The 2021 Advocacy Institute Online takes place on June 8-10, 2021.
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Colorado Virtual Career Fair is April 19 - 22 from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. and is open to middle and high school students.

After two decades of service to Colorado school boards and public education, it’s time to make the bittersweet announcement that Randy Black, CASB Director of Member Relations, will retire at the end of this month.
