CASB's 78th Annual Convention Highlights!

School board members, superintendents, education leaders and students concluded the 78th Annual CASB Convention on Sunday, December 9. This page provides highlights and offers a glimpse into the energy and enthusiasm that marked the annual convening.

The lessons on organizational change delivered by Friday's keynote speaker Peter Sheahan resonated throughout the conference. Attendees and workshop presenters discussed and embedded his messages on leading organizations and systems through change and transformation throughout the remainder of the event. On Saturday, attendees appreciated hearing first-hand from student leaders who participated in the student-driven and student-led program during Convention. Students in this program employ collaboration, compassionate insight and problem solving skills to tackle real challenges identified by their peers. Hearing their insights was a highlight during Saturday's General Session. Dr. John Medina followed the students on stage and fascinated the audience with the latest research on the teenage brain and ways to influence executive functioning of the brain. Finally, on Sunday, the state demographer, Elizabeth Garner, explained why following state population, economic estimates and forecasts are critical to our work as school boards. These speakers and many others, along with workshops and breakout sessions, offered great learning opportunities and the chance to share ideas with colleagues.
